Emmitt 10 Months

Well, we have reached the double digits. Emmitt is 10 months old today! He hasn't grown much, but a lot has happened in a month! He is for the most part a happy baby. A lot of things have been getting us down lately, but we are truckin' a long!

The first for this month: First tooth (August 25, front bottom left); crawling for real; pulling up; cruising. His favorite new trick is clapping! He is just plain into EVERYTHING!!!! By that I mean all things he is not supposed to be into!

Emmitt is still about 21 lbs. I haven't checked to see how tall he is. He is still mostly in 12 month clothing, but partially because I am avoiding changing sizes because the seasons are about to change as well! He wears size 4 diapers during the day, but after continuing to leak out of overnights with a cover on, we have moved to 5's at night. He is also in size 5 shoes.

That is really it for this month! A lot, but not much to write about.

P.S. I hope to post state fair pictures soon, so stay tuned.

First Day Of PreK

As mentioned in yesterday's post, today was the first day of PreK for Jesstine. She is going to the same school she went to last year. She has the same teacher she had last year, only she is the helper this year instead of the main teacher. I could tell when Jesstine woke up that she was anxious. Maybe even nervous.

Okay, so the camera flash probably didn't help.

My beautiful 4 year-old ready for a new school year.

I forgot about the cool sign for her to hold! So Dumpty got in on this too!
Can we go yet?
FINALLY! That's one small step for her, and one giant leap for Mommy.
Here we are!
She actually held my hand most of the way!

FINALLY found her name hook!

Will you just go already Mom?! (The teacher on the left was her teacher from last year. She is the assistant teacher this year.)
Getting a nametag on.
Already found a place to play!!!

I did this just for fun:
(This is proof that 4 year olds live in the moment. We are currently reading Charlotte's Web; She picks a different movie each day that she hasn't watched in a while and it becomes her favorite; Daddy took her bowling the other day and she brought back a DVD; Playing super heroes is another recent addition; Carsyn is the friend she just met last week at meet your teacher night.)

Emmitt and Animals

I want to start by saying, blogging may or may not be easier now with a smartphone. Stephen got a promotion at work and fortunately as part of that he also got a smart phone. That also meant I got one. It is much easier to post video. We will see about everything else!

Now on to the blog post. I have noticed lately that Emmitt loves animals. When he is close to Grandmom's cats, he starts talking in a sing songy voice and squeals with delight. Lately it has been with more than just Grandmom's cats. Case in point, this video clip. We webt to Walmart and Jesstine wanted to see the fish before we left. I decided to hold Emmitt up just to see what he would do. This is the result.

I think at some point in a past post, I mentioned possibly having pictures of Jesstine's meet your teacher night. Well, I brought the camera and forgot to take it inside! So hopefully we will get some good pictures of her first day of school tomorrow. Daddy can't make it, so we may even have some for her second day as well! Stay tuned for big things to come!

Oh The Places He Will Stand...

Emmitt is getting VERY good at pulling up on things. We find him in the most unusual places. Today at one point he had pulled up to standing at the exersaucer. When that wasn't good enough, he put his feet on the bottom disc (the blue part) and stood on the edge of that...then he got stuck! Wish I had a picture, but no such luck! I DO have a picture of a few OTHER places where he has recently been caught standing:

Look Mom! One hand!

So proud of himself too!

A few weeks ago, our parent educator for Parents As Teachers came over. She was looking at the checklist for ages 5-8 months. The only things Emmitt was not doing were crawling (which he literally started to army crawl a few days later) and clapping. Really?! That is an 8 month skill? WEIRD! I had also seen a lot of stuff in my weekly emails from a website on babies' growth and development that said things to the effect of: "Your baby may be pulling up on things...cruising...etc." Um, NO! I was starting to get worried! I didn't need to be of course! I knew Emmitt was starting to understand verbal commands. He learned "NO" rather quickly as he is always into something he shouldn't be. He also started to tell me when he is ready for nap or bed by saying, "Nigh Nigh Nigh Nigh!" Kinda cute! So I set out to teach him to clap. Lo and behold, here it is:

Oh and for the record, he can also say, "Clap, Clap, Clap," although it comes out differently in his baby babble, it is the same each time he does it and says it!

Now to end this post on kind of a creepy note. I was sitting on the couch waiting for Jesstine to go get Dumpty so that I could read her a bedtime story (we are about 1/3 of the way through Charlotte's Web). I looked to my right and saw this:

Okay, I really like Elmo, but this struck me as a little creepy!

P.S. Jesstine starts school next week so stay tuned! I bought her some new shoes for school and she thinks she is super fast in them! Hopefully they don't hurt her feet like the pair I bought her on clearance this summer that were SUPPOSED to be her school shoes :-/

On A Roll

I want to start by saying, I was initially concerned about Emmitt's safety. Once I heard his squeals of laughter, I knew he was fine and barked commands at Jesstine to be careful.

This is how you keep your brother from getting into your toy campout:

P.S. Remember that pesky tooth that was so hard to get a picture of? I FINALLY did it!

Toothy grin

In case you can't see it...here it is!
